Former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan is not sold on the Whites making a move for Swansea City attacker Oliver McBurnie.

The Scotland international is currently on loan at Barnsley and turned out for the Tykes in their 2-1 Championship defeat at Elland Road against Leeds on Saturday.

Leeds boss Paul Heckingbottom has admitted to being a big fan of McBurnie and the forward is claimed to be a transfer target for the Whites ahead of the summer window.

But Whelan, who was watching on for BBC Radio Leeds, was not blown away by McBurnie and thinks when it comes to strengthening in attack, the Whites need a 25-goals-a-season striker.

"He looked OK. He wasn't setting the world alight", Whelan said, after running the rule over McBurnie.

"If we're going to get a striker I'd like to get something a bit better, I'll be honest.

"It's such a crucial part of the pitch that you want someone prolific who's going to be getting you 25.

"He did OK, but he's not somebody that I would be looking at that would fit a Leeds United shirt", he admitted.

McBurnie is on loan at Barnsley from Premier League side Swansea and was taken to Oakwell by Heckingbottom in January.

His contract at the Liberty Stadium runs until the summer of 2019.
