Leeds United assistant Jamie Clapham has brushed off Whites head coach Paul Heckingbottom receiving abuse from the Barnsley fans at Elland Road, saying he only heard some towards the end of the game.

The match against Barnsley at Elland Road was Heckingbottom's first against his former side since he took over at the Whites earlier this year.

Heckingbottom's assistant Clapham, who performed the media duties post the match, which his side won 2-1 in the end, insists that he wasn't aware of the abuse until the very end of the game.

However, Clapham insists that it is an absolutely normal occurrence given the nature of the opponents and the rivalry between them.

The former Tottenahm player insists that the game was of particular significance to a Barnsley side fighting to secure their Championship status and the fact that the Peacocks managed to win it in the end shows a lot about the team.

"I didn't really hear it until the end but it was quite amusing, yes", Clapham told his post-match press conference.

"It's something that you expect. It's a derby, it's one of those things.

"It was a well-tempered derby and there weren't really any bad challenges, but two teams who wanted to win.

"They're fighting for their lives and at this moment in time, it's a difficult stage in the season for us because we want to win every game.

"If you're at the bottom it's as if you've got an extra edge to your game because there's really something on it.

"So full credit to our players."
