Lazar Markovic has blasted Liverpool for asking for an unrealistic transfer fee to let him go.

The winger joined Anderlecht on loan for the rest of the season in the January transfer window after being frozen out of the first team picture at Anfield.

Liverpool had been expected to sell Markovic last summer and then he was again expected to make a permanent exit in January, but the Serbian only moved on loan in the dying hours of the winter transfer window.

And Markovic, who scored his first goal for Anderlecht in a 2-1 defeat against Genk at the weekend, was quick to lay the blame squarely on Liverpool.

"They asked for an unrealistic transfer fee and would not let me go permanently, even though I did not play there anymore", Markovic was quoted as saying by Belgian outlet Voetbal Krant.

"I took that personally.

"I am not saying this in the spur of the moment after that one goal. It is something I have had in my head for months."

Markovic also admitted he hopes his goal at Anderlecht will remind Liverpool that he is still around.

"This goal is to show Liverpool that I am still alive and I am still the same good footballer they bought", he explained.

The winger was tipped for big things when Liverpool snapped him up from Portuguese giants Benfica in the summer of 2014.

Markovic has had loan spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon and Hull City, as he tries to relaunch his career.
