Former Scottish Premiership boss John Hughes is sure that if Rangers can snap up Scott Arfield then he would hugely improve their team.

Rangers have held talks with Arfield's representatives in a bid to take him to Ibrox in the summer when his contract at Premier League side Burnley runs out.

Ex-Falkirk and Hibernian boss Hughes knows Arfield well and believes that he would be a huge asset for Rangers if they succeed in taking him to Ibrox.

Hughes, 53, also praised Arfield's versatility, which means Rangers could choose to deploy him in a number of positions.

"I was speaking to him today and he still has that drive and hunger", Hughes was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"With Scott, you're getting five players in one. He can play wide left, wide right, number 10 or the two sitting midfield roles.

"I always felt he would see himself out in the English Premier League then look to go to America, that was his plan.

"But if Rangers got Scott Arfield he would improve their team immensely."

Arfield, 29, has also been linked with other English clubs and a switch to the MLS.

He has also been offered a fresh deal by Burnley, but the signs are that the Canada international will look to move on in search of a new challenge.
