Arsene Wenger has insisted that he has not given any input to the Arsenal board on whom to appoint as his replacement.

The Frenchman will end his 22-year stint with the Gunners at the end of the season and is hoping to win his only European trophy in the form of the Europa League during his last few weeks as their manager.

There has already been widespread speculation over who will replace Wenger at Arsenal, with former club captain Mikael Arteta believed to be CEO Ivan Gazidis’ preferred choice.

Wenger has reportedly recommended his former skipper Patrick Vieira to the Gunners board, but the Frenchman denied providing any input to the club regarding his successor.

He also stressed that he is not at all surprised by the speculation over the man who will succeed him as it is normal for Arsenal fans to want to know what is in store for the future.
