Former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has hit back at ex-Bhoy Didier Agathe, accusing him of just wanting a pay rise and not being intrerested in playing.

Earlier this year Agathe blasted Strachan and said he learned nothing in his time playing under the Scot at Celtic Park, as he indicated he did not feature in the Scot's plans from the start.

The wing-back claims that Strachan never had any interest in playing him as he brought in Paul Telfer, who was married to his daughter.

Agathe said: "Already he had brought a right-back named Paul Telfer, a guy married to his daughter.

"That's it", he continued.

"From the first training [session] I clashed with him because I hurt myself while he told me to train against the opinion of the physiotherapists.

"Frankly, I did not learn anything from him, and I do not say that because I did not play."

However, Strachan says that Agathe had no interest in playing from the start and was chasing a pay rise from the first moment he met him.

"Didier Agathe just wanted a pay rise. He wasn't interested in actually playing", Strachan told Open Goal.

"In our first kind of conversation he never actually said hello. He went 'I'm due a pay rise'. [I said] nice to meet you."

Strachan shipped Agathe out of Celtic in early 2006, the Frenchman lasting just over six months under the former Aberdeen midfielder.

Released from his contract at Celtic, Agathe went on to join Aston Villa, but struggled to make his mark in England with the Villa Park side.
