Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has identified Dejan Lovren as the weak link in the Reds team and joked if he has go to to Kyiv for the Champions League final to stop the Croatian playing then he will.

The Reds were 5-0 up against Roma at Anfield in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night, but suffered a late collapse to concede twice and offer the Italians a glimmer of hope.

Lovren was criticised for making mistakes in the semi-final first leg and Nicol is sure that he is the weak link in the current Liverpool side.

And the Liverpool legend would rather Lovren does not play in the final in Kyiv if the Reds book their spot in the biggest game in world club football.

Nicol said on ESPN FC: "Let's be honest, if there is a weakness in this team then he's the weakness.

"[When I’m in Kyiv] I'll go into Lovren's room and do something so he can't play. Then we'll have a better chance", the former Red joked.

"If I have to go to Kyiv to make sure he doesn't play then yes [I’m going]."

Lovren is widely thought to have benefited from Liverpool signing Virgil van Dijk, with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp favouring the duo as his central defensive pairing.

Liverpool are now preparing for a clash against Stoke City at the weekend and it remains to be seen how many regulars Klopp will rest ahead of the second leg in Italy.
