Former Chelsea and Scotland star Pat Nevin feels Liverpool are firm favourites to win the Champions League after he watched Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in action on Wednesday night.

Liverpool ripped Roma apart in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie on Tuesday night, running out 5-2 winners at Anfield to put one foot in the final in Kyiv.

Bayern Munich hosted Real Madrid in the first leg of their semi-final tie at the Allianz Arena, but were turned over 2-1 by the Spaniards.

But Nevin was not hugely impressed with Real Madrid and believes that out of all the sides left in the competition Liverpool are playing the best football and so must be the favourites.

He said on BBC Radio 5 live: "Real weren't spectacularly special. Apart from Ronaldo and Marcelo, they just are very good players, playing quite well. That's it. I really can't tell you.

"They have rode their luck, Bayern had chances, Muller, Ribery. Lewandowski had a header 99 times out of 100 he scores.

"You ask the question who will win the competition, no question it is Liverpool watching the teams.

"But Real Madrid somehow always find a way to win and you don't know how they did it", Nevin added.

Bayern Munich will be looking to hit back when they travel to the Bernabeu, but Real Madrid's two away goals means the Germans have a tough task on their hands.
