Former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson feels Allan McGregor would be a massive signing for the Gers even though they have a good goalkeeper in Wes Foderingham in the squad.

The 36-year-old shot-stopper is out of contract at Hull at the end of the season and Rangers have opened talks with his representatives to sign him on a free transfer in the summer.

A product of the Rangers academy, the goalkeeper made overe 250 appearances for the club before joining Besiktas in 2012 when the Glasgow giants were relegated to the bottom tier of Scottish football.

McGregor could return to his boyhood club in the summer if terms are agreed and Ferguson, who played with the goalkeeper at Rangers, feels his character could be a massive addition to the squad.

He believes the veteran goalkeeper’s previous experience of playing for Rangers would come in handy.

Ferguson told STV: “It would be a great signing.

“I played with Allan for a number of years, fantastic goalkeeper and a lot of ability.

“But the biggest thing for me is he's a massive character, he puts demands on players and he knows what it's like to play at Rangers, the pressures that the fans put you under.

“So for me I think it's a no-brainer.”

Ferguson is certain in Foderingham Rangers have a good goalkeeper, but still feels McGregor’s addition could be a huge bonus for the club.

“I think Rangers have got a very good goalkeeper at this moment in time, but to get Allan McGregor would be a massive signing for Rangers.”
