Borussia Dortmund have already identified a potential successor to Manchester United and Arsenal linked defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The 29-year-old defender has a contract until the end of next season with Dortmund and the centre-back is yet to sign the new deal on offer from the Bundesliga giants.

Dortmund are plotting to sell him in the summer transfer window if the contract remains unsigned and with clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal and Juventus interested, they are hopeful of getting a good fee.

There are already indications that Dortmund are looking beyond Sokratis next season and according to German daily Bild, they have already identified a potential replacement for the Greek.

It has been claimed that Dinamo Zagreb centre-back Filip Benkovic has emerged as Dortmund’s target and the potential successor to Sokratis, who is increasingly looking like leaving the club in the coming months.

Dortmund have been keeping tabs on the 20-year-old defender for some time and his performances have convinced the club that he is the man they should target in the summer.

The Bundesliga giants are hoping to get a fee of around €20m from Sokratis’ sale and are prepared to reinvest the money in order to snare Benkovic away from Dinamo Zagreb.

However, it still unclear how much money the Croatian club could demand should Dortmund knock their door for the tall defender.
