Clint Hill believes that if Rangers do appoint Steven Gerrard then it will be a brave move, although he has no doubt that the Liverpool legend will command instant respect inside the Ibrox dressing room.

Gerrard has been learning the coaching ropes in Liverpool's youth ranks following his retirement from playing and the former midfielder is currently in charge of the club's Under-18s.

He has been tipped as an eventual future Liverpool manager, but Gerrard could take his first steps in management in Scotland with Rangers, if reports are to be believed.

Former Rangers defender Hill admits that handing Gerrard the keys to Ibrox would be a brave move on Rangers' part. However, he feels the players will not be able to do anything other than respect Gerrard.

Asked for his opinion on the appointment if it happens, Hill wrote on Twitter: "It's a brave appointment, but I like that they are thinking outside of the box and looking at young and upcoming coaches.

"Gerrard's playing CV is second to none and he has done well in the Liverpool academy as well.

"His presence will certainly get respect from the players."

Rangers sacked Pedro Caixinha as manager earlier this season and youth boss Graeme Murty, handed the reins until the end of the season, is not expected to be kept on.
