Former Hibernian forward Tam McManus says that it would be a crazy decision if Steven Gerrard accepts an offer to become the next Rangers manager.

Graeme Murty has a contract until the end of the season and it is becoming increasingly likely that Rangers won’t offer him a new deal to continue beyond the summer.

Former Crystal Palace and Ajax boss Frank de Boer is believed to be on Rangers radar, but it has emerged that the Gers are also eyeing Gerrard.

The former midfielder is in charge of Liverpool Under-18s and is said to be on Rangers’ managerial shortlist, but former Scottish top flight forward McManus feels it would be a strange appointment.

And he added that Gerrard himself would be a little crazy if he agrees to start his managerial career at a high pressure club such as Rangers.

McManus took to Twitter and wrote: “Madness for Rangers to go for him. Would be even crazier for Gerrard to accept it.

“All a bit bonkers this to be honest but strangely exciting at the same time for the Rangers fans.”

However, he admits that a personality like Gerrard would be a huge addition to Scottish football should he become the next Rangers manager.

“I hope he does come up to Scotland would be blockbuster material for the media.”
