Marouane Fellaini would prefer to stay at Manchester United beyond the summer, but wants an offer of a three-year deal from the club.

The Belgian midfielder scored the winner against Arsenal on Sunday and Jose Mourinho later indicated that there is a good chance he will sign a new deal with Manchester United.

Fellaini rejected an offer of a new contract late last year and it was widely expected that he would be leaving the club in the summer, amidst offers from a number of clubs in Europe.

However, Mourinho’s words have brought a fresh twist to the saga and according to Belgian daily Het Nieuwsblad, the midfielder would indeed prefer to sign a new contract with Manchester United.

He is aware of offers from Besiktas and Galatasaray and the midfielder is also being courted by clubs in Italy with Inter, Roma and Juventus believed to be keen on him.

However, remaining at Manchester United is said to be his preferred option and he and his agents are set to meet the club hierarchy later this week to discuss a new contract.

Fellaini wants Manchester United to table a three-year deal, compared to the short term contract they offered earlier in the season.

Mourinho and Fellaini want to continue their association and the ball is now in Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward’s court.
