Steven Gerrard has stressed the importance of working together with the Rangers hierarchy to identify transfer targets for the club.

Rangers confirmed on Friday that Gerrard has signed a four-year contract to become the new manager at Ibrox and the club are looking forward to turning a new page under the Liverpool legend.

Concerns have been raised about Gerrard’s lack of experience as he only got into coaching last year when he took charge of Liverpool Under-18s at the start of the season.

However, Rangers are counting on his stature in football and believe he will be able to attract better quality players to the club in the upcoming transfer windows.

Gerrard is said to have received assurances over transfer funds before he agreed to take up the job, but he has made it clear he wants to work together with the current set-up to sign players.

Asked if he will have the final say on transfers, the new Rangers boss said in a press conference: “It’s not about who has the final say, it’s about working together.

“I am sure Mark [Allen] and Andy [Dickson] can help me to identify targets that we want and the areas we need to look at.

“And then we need to just reach an agreement amongst ourselves.”

It remains to be seen whether Rangers are able to put in significant funds into the squad to support Gerrard in order to compete with Celtic next season.
