David Thompson has no doubt that Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard will lead Rangers to a domestic treble in Scottish football next season.

Gerrard, who is currently Under-18s coach at Liverpool, has agreed a three-year contract with Rangers and is expected to be named the club's manager on Friday afternoon.

Thompson, who played with Gerrard at Liverpool, thinks that the former midfielder's competitive nature meant he simply could not refuse the temptation to take over at Rangers.

And Thompson is convinced that Gerrard will be an instant hit in Scottish football, ending Celtic's dominance in style.

The former Red wrote on Twitter: "I knew it wouldn't take long for Stevie G's competitive desire to surface.
