Leeds United legend Eddie Gray says his money is on Aston Villa gaining promotion to the Premier League through the Championship playoffs.

Steve Bruce's man are shaping up for the playoffs and on current league standings will play Tony Pulis' Middlesbrough in the semi-final stage.

Third placed Fulham still have a chance of overhauling second placed Cardiff City on the final day to claim an automatic promotion spot, but Gray's prediction is not affected by whether the Cottagers or the Bluebirds end up in the playoff spots.

Gray insists he simply has a gut feeling that Villa will be playing Premier League football next season, despite feeling Fulham are the best footballing side currently positioned in the playoff spots.

"If I was a betting man my money would be on Villa", he said on Leeds' in-house TV channel LUTV.

"Fulham are probably the better football team out of the teams there and their recent record shows that.

"But I've just got a feeling, Aston Villa, big club, the playoffs.

"Fulham could still get automatic, but even if Cardiff fell into that group I still myself think Aston Villa", he added.

Villa have already secured a playoff spot and finish their regular season campaign with a trip to take on Millwall on Sunday.
