Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson thinks Rangers are sure to be chasing some of the same transfer targets as Celtic and the appointment of Steven Gerrard will give the Gers the edge.

The Glasgow giants have handed Gerrard his first managerial job with a four-year contract to take over from 1st June.

Rangers are expected to back Gerrard financially in the transfer market in an effort to be competitive with rivals Celtic, who are bossed by former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

And Lawrenson, who expects Rangers to be rivalling Celtic for players, thinks the appointment of Gerrard will give the Gers the edge.

"I think when Celtic are after players, Rangers will be after the same players", Lawrenson said on LFC TV.
