Former Hibernian star Tam McManus thinks that Steven Gerrard is under less pressure at Rangers than many realise and has backed him to improve the Gers and stop heavy defeats against Celtic.

Gerrard has stepped into senior management with Rangers by signing a four-year contract which will kick off from 1st June.




The Gers are struggling to finish second in the Scottish Premiership this season, while they have regularly suffered heavy defeats at the hands of rivals Celtic.

Expectations are high that Gerrard can make Rangers competitive with Celtic once again and push the Gers forward on the pitch.
 


McManus has backed Gerrard to improve Rangers and stop the heavy defeats to Celtic, while he is also feels the Liverpool legend is under less pressure than is widely believed.

The ex-Hibs man wrote on Twitter: "I don't think that it's [Gerrard’s words in his press conference] meaningless, but I do agree the task is massive.

"I feel he is under less pressure than many think though.

"If he can’t improve Rangers on their current form on the park and stop them just rolling over and getting their tummy tickled by Celtic I would be staggered", McManus added.

Gerrard is being joined at Rangers by former Liverpool midfielder Gary McAllister, who will act as his number two, while Michael Beale is leaving the Liverpool academy to join his backroom staff.
