Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers insists that he will rest goalkeeper Craig Gordon for the Bhoys'  final league game against Aberdeen to have him fit for the Scottish Cup final against Motherwell.

The 35-year-old has missed his side's last two games against Hamilton and Kilmarnock with a knee injury, with his deputy Scott Bain taking over.

The former Liverpool boss, who has just led his team to their seventh consecutive league title, insists that his initial plans were to rest the veteran only to make sure that he was available for the game against Motherwell in the Scottish Cup.

While giving him some much needed game time is going to be important, the manager took time to insist that they are not going to take any risks and will only look at how Gordon is at the start of next week and hopefully will have him available for the all important game.

"Yes. It was just a case of getting Scott some game time as well and letting Craig try to give it every possible chance because he is a big player for us", Rodgers was quoted as saying by Herald Scotland.
