Manchester United legend Lou Macari believes it is wrong to expect Paul Pogba to produce something magical every week just because of his price tag.

The French midfielder has failed to convince some fans since returning to Manchester United from Juventus in a club record deal in the summer of 2016.

While there have been glimpses of his quality and performances, such as against Tottenham and Manchester City and last month again underlined the class of the player, he is yet to produce the goods week-in-week-out.

However, Macari believes some unattainable expectations have been thrusted on Pogba just because of his huge price tag and everyone wants to see a piece of magic from him every week.

But he feels it is impossible for any player, no matter how good they are, to produce something out of the ordinary every week and wants people to show some patience with the midfielder.

Macari said on MUTV: “You are always going to get people wanting more from him.

“He has got that price tag and as soon as he sets foot on the park out there, people are going to say what magic he is going to produce today.

“That magic is not going to come every week, even if you are a top top player but it did come at Manchester City, he got important goals there in an important win for us.

“But to expect it to happen game after game, week after week is wrong. I don’t expect that from any top player.”

The 25-year-old midfielder has scored six goals and produced 12 assists in all competitions for Manchester United this season.
