Cruz Azul coach Pedro Caixinha has confirmed that on loan Rangers midfielder Carlos Pena will not continue with the club.

The 28-year-old joined the Mexican outfit on loan in January this year with the deal scheduled to run for a year until January 2019.

But Pena's former boss at Rangers has confirmed that the Mexican will not feature for the team again.

Caixinha snapped up Pena last summer for a fee in the region of £2m when he was in charge at Ibrox, but the 47-year-old was sacked in October, just seven months after taking charge.

"Carlos is not going to continue with us, he has known it directly from me", Caixinha revealed via the club's Twitter account.

Pena has a contract with Rangers that runs until June 2020 and it remains to be seen exactly when he will head back to Scotland.

The Mexican international has managed 14 appearances for Rangers in which he has scored five goals.

For Cruz Azul, Pena has played seven times, though his last appearance was on 4th April in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of CF America.
