Everton manager Sam Allardyce has claimed that Wayne Rooney has not asked to leave Goodison Park this summer despite all the speculation.

Rooney has reportedly agreed a deal in principle to join MLS outfit DC United in the coming months but there is still no clarity on whether he is sure to leave Everton.

The former England captain is believed to be ready to listen to Everton before deciding on whether to act on the personal deal he agreed with DC United for the summer.

Allardyce admits that negotiations could have taken place between DC United and Rooney, but indicated that there is nothing final about the forward leaving Everton at the end of the season.

The Everton boss revealed that he will speak to Rooney about the whole affair but stressed that the player has not requested to leave Goodison Park yet.

Responding to speculation over Rooney’s future, Allardyce said in a press conference: “My understanding is there seems to have been some negotiation along the line, but as for clarity as to whether Wayne is staying or going we’ll see later on.

“I don’t get involved in transfers, but there seems to be an interest from DC United.

“Only when I speak to him today I’ll find out where the situation lies.

“I’m comfortable with any player who wants to leave, but let’s get this clear, Wayne Rooney hasn’t asked to leave.”

Rooney’s star has faded recently despite the hype that surrounded him returning to Everton from Manchester United last summer.
