Schalke have joined the race for Everton and West Ham United target Leonardo Bittencourt, as the scramble for the winger heats up.

Following 1.FC Koln's relegation from the Bundesliga, Bittencourt can quit the club for a bargain fee of between €6m and €8m, something which has caused a number of clubs to have interest in securing his services.

A number of sides have put proposals Bittencourt's way, including Everton and West Ham, while there is also significant interest from clubs within Germany.

Now, according to German daily Bild, Schalke can be added to the list.

The Ruhr giants are losing both Leon Goretzka and Max Meyer this coming summer on free transfers, with neither having agreed to sign a new deal.

And the pressure is on Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel to recruit replacements.

Bittencourt has confirmed that he has had an influx of proposals, but insists he has decided nothing yet.

The winger, who is the son of former Brazilian player Franklin Bittencourt, said: "I can only confirm that there are currently various requests from the Bundesliga and abroad.

"However, nothing is decided yet."

Schalke will feel they can present a strong case to Bittencourt as they will be playing in next season's Champions League.
