Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes Charly Musonda’s disappointing loan stint at Parkhead should bring forward more questions about the club’s recent recruitment record.

Celtic signed the Belgian attacking midfielder from Chelsea on an 18-month loan deal during the winter window, but the Blues are reportedly keen to cut short his stay in Scotland at the end of the season.

Musonda has struggled to get into Brendan Rodgers’ squad since his arrival at Parkhead in January and Chelsea are unhappy with his situation at Celtic.

And Sutton is certain that the Belgian will leave Celtic this summer, a year ahead of his loan deal expiring and he believes Musonda has never looked settled since he joined the club.

The former Bhoy also feels Celtic must start questioning some of their recruitment decisions following Musonda’s failure at Parkhead.

Speaking about the Belgian’s time at Celtic, Sutton said on BT Sport: “I think he’s done.

“Such a big reputation down south, he was on the brink of getting into the Chelsea team and they have a good squad.

“You would have thought he would get more game time, but within a couple of games he was out and no [he shouldn’t have been given a chance] as Brendan sees him every day in training.

“He has been a big disappointment and you again need to question Celtic’s recruitment over a longer period of time.

“They need to do better.”

However, Sutton refuted suggestions that Musonda’s attitude has been his problem at Celtic.

“My knowledge, according to what I know, I won’t question his attitude.”
