Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has expressed his gratitude towards Jose Mourinho for giving him an opportunity on his coaching staff.

Carrick started in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Watford at Old Trafford and it was his last league appearance as he will be hanging up his boots at the end of the season.

The five-time Premier League title winner has already moved into coaching this season after Mourinho assimilated him on to his coaching staff and the midfielder is delighted to get his opportunity.

He is grateful towards the Manchester United manager, believes he will be learning from one of the best in the world and is certain the club are going to win a lot more under Mourinho in the coming years.

Carrick said after the game in his end-of-season speech as club captain: “I am retiring today and my role changes so I need to thank Jose for the massive opportunity.
