Borussia Dortmund are preparing to sell Arsenal target Sokratis Papastathpoulos after he rejected proposals to extend his contract at the club.

The Greek defender's deal with the Ruhr giants is set to run out in the summer of 2019 and, according to German daily the Ruhr Nachrichten, he has turned down the idea of an extension.

Dortmund are now preparing to sell the 29-year-old centre-back and he has already received a number of offers.

It is claimed that Arsenal in currently in pole position to sign Sokratis from the Bundesliga club, with an advantage being the presence of former Dortmund chief scout Sven Mislintat at the Emirates Stadium.

If Sokratis does move to Arsenal he will see familiar faces as former Dortmund stars Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ply their trade in north London.
