Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson admits he is suffering after Malmo FF sacked coach Magnus Pehrsson.

Jansson's former club have had a poor start to the season and losing in the Swedish Cup final 3-0 against Djurgardens, followed by a 1-0 league loss at Trelleborgs, spelt the end for Pehrsson as coach.

Malmo, Swedish champions, find themselves in tenth spot in the 16-team top flight after nine games played; they are already eleven points behind league leaders Hammarby.

Big Malmo fan Jansson admits that someone had to pay the price for the team's poor form and he is shocked how quickly the situation has changed at the club.

He told Sportbladet: "That's how it works in football.

"You have to find someone who is responsible for the results and it is difficult to look into the players, even if they are at fault as much as the coach."

And Jansson admits the situation at Malmo has left him suffering, coming hot on the heels of last year's title success.

"I suffer with Magnus and I suffer with Malmo that they had to make this decision.

"A month ago everyone was over the moon and on top.

"It's sick how fast things can turn in football."

Jansson has first-hand experience of the shifting sands of football, with the Swede having helped Leeds to a lofty finish of seventh in the Championship last season, only for the Whites to slip to 13th and well out of the promotion picture this season.

The Leeds star has been spending time back in his native Sweden following the end of the regular Championship campaign, which has allowed him to take a close look at former club Malmo.
