Incoming Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has revealed he could see the hunger in Steven Gerrard's eyes when he spoke to the Liverpool legend about joining him at Ibrox.

Gerrard has signed a four-year contract with Rangers to kick off his senior managerial career at the club, with overhauling Celtic at the top of the Scottish game the aim.




He is taking former Liverpool team-mate McAllister with him and the Scot is excited by the challenge which awaits at Rangers.

And McAllister says that when he sat down with Gerrard to discuss going north of the border to Rangers, he could see the hunger to succeed in the Liverpool legend's eyes.
 


"Look, it’s going to be a tough task", McAllister was quoted as saying by the Evening Times.

"When I first sat down with Steven I saw the glint in his eye about the job of managing Rangers.

"I could see the hunger and desire and I’m exactly the same.

"We are going to go up to Glasgow and give it our best shot", the former midfielder stressed.

"I’m really, really excited about it and so is Steven.

"Rangers are a massive, massive club and it will be a great challenge for us."

Gerrard will initially look to make an impact in the Europa League with Rangers, knowing that steering the Gers through qualifying and to the group stage would be a big early feather in his cap.
