Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca has rejected the chance to join West Ham United in favour of signing a new two-year contract with Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk.

West Ham confirmed on Wednesday morning that David Moyes has left the Hammers despite managing to keep the club in the Premier League at the end of a tough league campaign.

The Hammers have also insisted that work is under way to appoint a top calibre manager who will be able to match the club’s ambition and take them forward in the near future.

However, it seems there managerial search has already taken a heavy blow as Fonseca, believed to be one of their top targets, has already rejected a chance to move to east London.

The Hammers recently held talks with the 45-year-old, but according to Portuguese daily O Jogo, Fonseca won’t be seen on the touchline at the London Stadium next season.
