West Ham linked midfielder Rodrigo Battaglia could terminate his contract with Sporting Lisbon following an attack on the players and staff on Tuesday, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it.

Around 50 intruders, believed to be the club’s ultras, entered Sporting Lisbon’s training facilities and assaulted the players and the staff following a disappointing season.

Sporting Lisbon failed to qualify for the Champions League following a 2-1 defeat at Maritimo, allowing their bitter rivals Benfica to leapfrog them into second place.

The club and the Portuguese FA have already condemned the attack on the players and the staff, but it seems it could motivate an exodus from the club in the summer.

It has been claimed that Battaglia's agents are now ready to work to terminate their client's contract with the club and he could leave Sporting Lisbon during the upcoming window.

The midfielder has a release clause worth €30m in his contract, but if he terminated the deal he could be available on a free transfer, making him a more attractive prospect for more clubs.

The 26-year-old is expected to be part of Argentina’s squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer.
