Arsenal could announce their new manager next week, with Mikel Arteta the top contender, but Patrick Vieira and Massimiliano Allegri are still said to be in the mix.

Speculation over who will succeed Arsene Wenger at Arsenal has grown since the Frenchman announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season last month.

A number of names have been touted as a possible successor to the Frenchman and the Gunners have conducted in-depth formal interviews and negotiations with a number of candidates.

The final list was zeroed down to three names – Arteta, Vieira and Juventus coach Allegri and it seems a decision is imminent from the club hierarchy.

According to the BBC, the Gunners could make an announcement on their new manager as early as next week and look to usher in a new era at the club.

Arteta remains the favourite to become the Arsenal manager, but former captain Vieira and Allegri are still in the running despite Juventus being confident of holding on to their coach.

The Gunners are set to follow the continental model of hiring a head coach who will look to seamlessly settle in the ready-made set-up rather than having an all-encompassing manager.

It has also been claimed that the new man in charge will have a veto on transfers, but he will not be on the only voice when it comes to recruitment.
