Everton midfielder Davy Klaassen’s agent has insisted that his client is still planning to start pre-season with the Toffees this summer.

The Merseyside club signed the Dutchman from Ajax last summer, but his first season in England was an unmitigated failure, with Klaassen being reduced to being a bit part player.

With Everton expected to spend big again this summer to right the wrongs of the previous year’s transfer mistakes, Klaassen is expected to be on the chopping block at Goodison Park.

There has already been talk of clubs from Italy showing an interest in the Dutchman, but his agent, Soren Lerby, stressed that his client has no plans to give up on his time at Everton just yet.

He insisted the midfielder is still looking to start pre-season preparations with Everton once they return to training in July.

Lerby told Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad, when asked about the midfielder’s future: “Davy is not someone who gives up quickly.

“He wants to start pre-season with Everton.”

Asked about what happens if Klaassen is not part of Everton’s plans moving forward, he said: “These are scenarios we can think about later.”

The 25-year-old, who has a contract until 2022 with Everton, made just seven Premier League appearances for the Toffees.
