Lazio legend Mario Facco has urged the club to hold on to Manchester United linked Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as he is their best player.

The 23-year-old Serbian midfielder has emerged as a top class talent in Serie A and has been widely linked with a move away from Lazio in the current transfer window.

Italian champions Juventus are interested in signing him and Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to pay top dollar to land the Lazio midfielder in the coming months.

Lazio are hopeful of earning a fee north of €80m should they sell Milinkovic-Savic, but Facco feels the club must do everything to keep hold of him as he one of the few world class players they possess.

The former defender admits Lazio could be forced to sell players to finance their transfer plans this summer, but stressed that the club hierarchy must do everything to resist selling the Serbian.

Facco told Italian outlet Tutto Mercato when asked about the midfielder: “As a fan I hope he stays.

“Lazio are bereft of great players as he is the best at the club.

“The club must reinforce, but I don’t know whether we have the money to sign new players or we have to transfer some of our players.”

He added: “I repeat, in my opinion he should be kept at all costs, but we have to see whether [Lazio president Claudio] Lotito can resist the pressure from clubs who want him.”
