Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has refused to read too much into his impressive record in cup finals ahead of the FA Cup showdown against Chelsea at Wembley.

Mourinho and Manchester United are in with a chance to finish the season with a trophy for their cabinet when they take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

While they finished second, their highest position and points tally since 2013, they were 19 points behind eventual champions and local rivals Manchester City, who won the league at a canter.

Manchester United fans are keen to see their team lift the FA Cup for a record equaling 13th time and Mourinho’s record of winning 12 of his 14 cup finals since lifting the UEFA Cup with Porto in 2013 has been a source of confidence for the Red Devils.

However, Mourinho stressed that past records will count for nothing and it will be all about which group of players perform on the day when it matters.

The Manchester United manager said in a press conference: “I think the winning mentality doesn’t have to do with records or history in finals.

“Honestly I think what we did in the past has nothing to do with tomorrow.

“And the records don’t play, tomorrow it will be eleven against eleven and everybody trying to give their best.”

Mourinho won the EFL Cup and the Europa League last season with Manchester United and is hoping to win this third trophy in his first two campaigns at Old Trafford.
