Liverpool legend John Aldridge has conceded that Real Madrid’s bench strength could make the difference in the Champions League final.

The Merseyside giants have shocked many in the world of football with their run to the Champions League final on the back of some scintillating attacking football in Europe’s elite club competition.

They will be up against a Real Madrid side who are looking to win their third consecutive Champions League crown and their 13th overall on Saturday night in Kyiv.

Liverpool’s front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have been the most feared attacking force in Europe this season and Aldridge believes if they come to the fore again, the Reds could win their sixth Champions League crown.

The former striker feels the Liverpool first eleven is a no brainer, but admits that the firepower Real Madrid have on their bench is far superior to what the Reds have in reserve.

Aldridge wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo: “If our front three play to the best of their ability against a fairly suspect Real Madrid defence we’ll have a great chance.

“What worries me is the strength of their bench compared to our bench.

“They have got game changers to bring on and I think that’s a big advantage.”

He added: “The Liverpool team picks itself, really.

“I don’t think there are any dilemmas for the manager.”
