West Ham United joint-chairman David Sullivan is excited by the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as the club's new manager and hopes that the fans agree that it is a move to achieve better results.

The Hammers did well this season to battle out of the relegation zone under David Moyes, who guided them to 13th place in the Premier League at the end of the season.

Though Moyes did help West Ham achieve their ambition to stay in the top flight for next season, the club parted ways with the manager after six months in charge.

Sullivan believes that Pellegrini is a quality manager who has had good times in the Premier League with Manchester City and is confident that the Chilean will be successful at West Ham as well.

The 69-year-old told the club’s official website: “Above all, he is a winner, who knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level and is driven to continue that success.

"Manuel is the first West Ham United manager to have a Premier League title on his CV, and we believe that his experience, quality and proven record of taking teams forward quickly will ensure that he is successful here.”

The joint-chairman feels that the fans will be glad about the move as it is an ambitious one aimed at producing improved performances in the top flight.

“We have listened to fans who asked us to be ambitious.

"We hope they agree it is an exciting appointment.”

Pellegrini, who took charge of Manchester City in 2013, managed the club to Premier League glory in 2014 and was replaced by Pep Guardiola in 2016.
