Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon has stressed the importance of being patient with new Gunners head coach Unai Emery.

Arsenal confirmed the appointment of Emery today as their new head coach after a thorough process that saw them interview up to ten candidates, including former Arsenal captains Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira.

The Spaniard won three Europa Leagues on the trot with Sevilla and ended his time at Paris Saint-Germain this season by winning the domestic treble in France.

There are question marks about his ability to take Arsenal back to the top of English football, especially with a rumoured transfer budget of £50m before sales, but Dixon has backed Emery to become a success at the Emirates.

The former defender admits that filling the vacuum left by Arsene Wenger is going to be a huge responsibility and wants the Arsenal fans to show more patience with the new man in charge.
