Wayne Rooney will be travelling to the United States this week for talks with DC United officials, but a final decision on his future still rests with Everton.

Rooney has agreed a deal in principle to join the MLS outfit in the ongoing transfer window, but no definitive decision has been taken on whether he will be leaving Everton.

Everton are currently busy appointing a new manager and are only expected to take a call on Rooney once the new man in charge takes his seat in the Goodison Park dugout.

Rooney on the other hand is mentally preparing himself for a move to the United States and according to the BBC, he will be in Washington this week to meet DC United officials.

The former England and Manchester United captain will hold further talks with the club and take a look at the facilities before possibly agreeing to a move to the MLS outfit.

However, the final decision still rests with Everton, who re-signed Rooney last summer from Manchester United on a two-year contract.

Rooney scored 10 Premier League goals for Everton this season, but the last of those strikes was in December.
