Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has insisted that Unai Emery will receive considerable funds to develop the squad this summer.

Emery was unveiled as the new Arsenal head coach on Wednesday afternoon and the Spaniard has been given the remit of returning the Gunners to the Champions League as they prepare for one more year outside Europe’s elite competition.

There are suggestions that the new Arsenal manager will have a transfer budget of £50m plus sales for the ongoing transfer window, which is considerably less than the total their rivals such as Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are expected to spend.

Many believe that Arsenal need to spend more money to improve a squad who have finished two seasons in a row outside the top four.

Gazidis has been unwilling to discuss the club’s budget, but he stressed Emery will receive enough funds to restructure the current Arsenal squad.

“If you want to look at our accounts you can. We run a self-sustaining model and we will continue to.

“Money has always been made available for our managers.

“All our resources will be available for Unai to develop the team.”
