Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen has conceded that he struggled to deal with the disappointment of not completing a move to Newcastle United in the winter window.

Newcastle made multiple bids to sign the 27-year-old Dane from Feyenoord and the striker was prepared to move to England during the middle of the season.

However, the Magpies failed to reach an agreement over a fee with the Dutch outfit and Feyenoord refused to sell the striker towards the end of the January transfer window.

Jorgensen's form plummeted soon after the winter window closed and the striker admitted that the failed attempt to move to Newcastle in January did take a toll on his performances.

The striker conceded that he struggled to come to terms with the aborted transfer to England, but feels he did well to recover and finish the campaign on a high.

Jorgensen told Danish outlet Bold: “A lot of things happened.

“There was something personal and there was this transfer that went down the drain.

“It caused some problems that I never experienced before and maybe I was not ready to handle them properly.

“I took some time to get back to terms again, but I did and finished the season by scoring in the cup final so it was great.”

Jorgensen finished the season with 13 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions for Feyenoord.
