Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko is closing in on a permanent move to FC Midtjylland after spending the second half of the season on loan at the Danish outfit.

Struggling to feature regularly in the first half of the campaign, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers allowed the Dane to return to his homeland and his former club Midtjylland on loan until the summer.

He re-settled into his former team in no time and was a central figure in helping them lift their second ever Danish Superliga title at the end of the campaign.

Midtjylland are more than willing to convert the initial loan move into a permanent transfer and the defender is also prepared to continue in Danish football.

And according Danish broadcaster TV3, the two clubs are closing in on an agreement that will see Sviatchenko leave Celtic in a permanent transfer this summer.

It has also been claimed that the 26-year-old has already agreed a four-year contract with the club and now it is up to the two clubs to reach an agreement over a fee.

And a deal is said to be imminent as Midtjylland are expecting to make an announcement on the defender signing a permanent contract soon.

Sviatchenko made 63 appearances for Celtic, winning two Scottish Premierships, a Scottish Cup and two Scottish League Cups during his stay at the club.
