Chelsea are to resume talks with Maurizio Sarri today after a positive round of negotiations between the club and his representatives on Thursday.

Napoli decided to sack Sarri and appoint three-time Champions League winning manager Carlo Ancelotti as their new coach on Wednesday, but his release clause is still valid.

It has been claimed that Chelsea are prepared to pay the €8m buyout clause to Napoli to take Sarri to west London as Antonio Conte’s replacement this summer.

Sarri and his representatives met Chelsea officials on Thursday and had a marathon round of talks, which started at lunchtime and stretched until nine in the evening.

And while the two parties are yet to reach an agreement, according to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia, the negotiations were positive and a two-year deal for the former banker has been mooted.

Sarri and his entourage will again meet the Chelsea hierarchy later today for further talks and there is optimism that an agreement is on the cards.

Chelsea are also in touch with Conte and are trying to work out a compensation package with his representatives before deciding to sack the Premier League and the FA Cup winning manager.

The 48-year-old has made it clear that he won’t resign and is intending to make Chelsea pay his full compensation amount if they sack him.
