Manchester United did probe the possibility of signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio in recent days, but are pondering their options after being quoted a hefty asking price.

The 23-year-old midfielder’s value has soared after a terrific season at Lazio, which saw them just miss out on qualifying for the Champions League on the final day of the season.

Europe’s big wigs have been lining up to snare him away from Lazio in the summer transfer window and Manchester United have long been linked with having an interest.

Manchester United have already agreed a deal to sign Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and want to add one more high quality midfielder to their squad in the ongoing window.

Milinkovic-Savic has long been on their radar and according to Sky Italia, they even touched base with Lazio recently to probe the possibility of signing him this summer.

Lazio made it clear that they won’t sell the midfielder for anything less than €100M and are expected to ask for more money given the level of interest the player has been attracting, including from Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester United have not made further enquiries and are currently pondering their options over a second midfield signing this summer.

Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini has reportedly emerged as another possible target and he has a release clause worth just over €30m.
