Belgian giants Anderlecht are prepared to offer contractual terms to Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba, who has been linked with Celtic, this week.

The defender has been offered to Anderlecht in a package deal along with Newcastle goalkeeper Matz Sels, who has already agreed a five-year contract with the club.

Mbemba was a bit part player under Rafael Benitez last season and Newcastle are keen to offload him this summer to make space on their wage bill.

The Belgian giants are interested in the Congolese defender and according to Het Nieuwsblad, the club are ready to open talks over personal terms with his representatives.

If they can reach a contractual agreement with the player, Anderlecht will look to get the package deal that would also see them sign Sels from Newcastle over the line.

However, agreeing a contract with Mbemba is far from done as the player is unsure about returning to Belgian football and Anderlecht are also facing competition from Standard Liege and Club Brugge.

Scottish champions Celtic are also interested in signing the centre-back and could have an edge in the chase because of the former Anderlecht player’s insistence on proving himself outside Belgium.
