Former Bundesliga star Jan Aage Fjortoft has claimed that Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos won’t improve the Arsenal defence.

Arsenal are in talks with Dortmund for the signature of the 29-year-old centre-back and they are still reportedly some way off the Bundesliga club’s valuation of the player.

The encouraging fact for the Gunners is that the defender has made up his mind about moving to the Emirates Stadium and is now waiting for the two clubs to reach an agreement.

Sokratis has rejected an offer of a new contract from Dortmund and the club are now prepared to sell him as he has only a year left on his current deal with BVB.

Former Bundesliga striker Fjortoft waded into Arsenal’s pursuit of the centre-back and he believes Sokratis’ possible move to England won’t do much to improve the Gunners’ defence.

[He] won’t improve [the] Arsenal – defence.”
