Aston Villa and West Ham midfield target Milan Badelj is closing in on a move to AC Milan on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old Croatia international was confirmed by Fiorentina on Monday to not be signing a new contract this summer and will be leaving the club.

Badelj was handed the club captaincy following Davide Astori’s tragic death earlier this year and has been a hugely respected figure inside the Fiorentina dressing room.

But the midfielder believes he needs a fresh challenge and there were offers to move to England with both Aston Villa and West Ham reportedly trying to take him outside Italy.

However, Badelj is close to continuing in Serie A and according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, he has already agreed terms on a contract with AC Milan.

Inter were also interested in the player, but with the Rossoneri close to signing him, the Nerazzurri are set to drop out of the race for the midfielder this summer.

Badelj has long been an AC Milan target and it seems the club are finally closing in on taking him to the San Siro on a free transfer this summer.
