Everton-bound Marco Silva is interested in taking Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho to Goodison Park this summer, but he could face competition from Monaco.

The Portugal international’s future at Sporting Lisbon has been subject to speculation over many transfer windows and despite being extensively linked with top clubs, William has continued to feature for the Portuguese giants.

William's future has again opened up for debate this summer and there are suggestions that there is fresh interest from the Premier League in the ongoing window.

According to Portuguese daily A Bola, Everton are expected to make a move for the defensive midfielder once Silva becomes their new manager in the coming days.

The former Watford boss worked with William when he was in charge at Sporting Lisbon and wants to take him to England as he seeks a fresh start at Everton this summer.

However, Everton could face stiff competition from Monaco, who are managed by another former Sporting Lisbon coach, Leonardo Jardim, and he too is a fan of the Portuguese midfielder.

Sporting Lisbon have been able to hold on to William despite all the speculation over the years and it remains to be seen whether they can achieve the same feat this summer as well.

The midfielder has a contract until 2020 with Sporting Lisbon.
