Liverpool linked goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has insisted that he has told Barcelona that he wants to play more often next season.

The 29-year-old Dutch goalkeeper was number 2 to Marc-Andre ter Stegen last season and only made ten appearances across all competitions for the Catalan giants.

His future at the club has come under the scanner this summer with Liverpool believed to be keen on taking him to England, but Cillessen admits that Barcelona want to keep hold of him.

However, he stressed that he has made it clear to the club that he cannot have another season like last term and wants to play more games going forward.

The Dutchman admits that he is keeping his options open in the ongoing window, but he wants to be first choice goalkeeper and is not willing to warm the bench any more.

Cillessen told Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad: “It is clear that I want to play more and I have also indicated it several times.

“But Barcelona have indicated that they want to keep me. I can jump up and down but the ball is in the club’s court.”

Asked about his plans this summer, he said: “I am waiting and the club know my stance. I have had a great time but I want to play.

“It has always been my ambition to be the first choice goalkeeper and that was the case even when I came here.

“However, Ter Stegen was unparalleled this season, especially in the first half, and I had little to say.”

Cillessen, who has a contract until 2021 with Barcelona, has a €60m buy-out clause.
