Carpi president Claudio Caliumi fully expects striker Jerry Mbakogu to join Leeds United this summer.

Leeds have a contractual option to sign Mbakogu by the end of June for a fee of around £3m, but have not yet activated their agreement to take him to Elland Road.

But the Carpi supremo is not concerned by the fact that Leeds have yet to take up the option and feels only a cataclysmic event can stop Mbakogu pulling on a white shirt in the English second tier next season.

President Caliumi told Resto del Carlino when asked about Mbakogu: "There is a pre-contract with Leeds.

"Except for a cataclysmic event, Jerry will go to England", the Carpi supremo added.

Mbakogu hit the back of the net eight times in all competitions for Carpi in the recently concluded season, as his side finished in eleventh spot in the Serie B standings.

The 25-year-old Nigerian has also turned out in Russian football for Krylya Sovetov Samara.

Leeds have been linked with looking at other options before proceeding with Mbakogu, but Carpi are not envisaging anything stopping the deal going through.
