Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will not be able to sign transfer target Ousmane Dembele this summer after Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed the Frenchman will not be sold.

Barcelona paid big money to snare Dembele away from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but his first campaign at the Camp Nou was a difficult one and interrupted by injury.

He has been linked with being available and Liverpool boss Klopp was claimed to be eyeing taking the 21-year-old forward to Anfield; it was even claimed in some quarters that Liverpool have submitted a bid.

But Bartomeu insists that the Catalan giants have no intention of selling the France international and are confident he will get to grips with life in La Liga.

"[Philippe] Coutinho probably in the last four months has been very active for the team, but Dembele is a very young and talented player who we expect great things from", the president was quoted as saying by Catalan daily Sport.

"The next season will be different.

"It is not easy to play at FC Barcelona in the first year as the football model is quite different from the rest", Bartomeu added.

Liverpool could still make a signing from Barcelona this summer as they have been linked with two other Blaugrana stars in the shape of goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen and defender Yerry Mina.
